List of Sanctuaries to Watch Rhinos in Tanzania and Kenya

African wildlife is famous for its Big Five groups of animals. Rhino is also listed as one of these Big Five. You can find both the black and white rhinos here.

These are shy animals and are very hard to come by while on safaris in the African forests and national parks. They are listed as one of the critically endangered species and cannot be sought quickly.

Africa and the Tanzania national parks are taking all measures to remove the name of rhino species from the critically endangered list. Many places in Kenya can serve as the grounds to watch rhinos and are listed below.

Ol Pejeta Conservancy

The largest black rhino population is found in this conservancy in East Africa. With Ol Pejeta Bush Camp, this region is also considered the beacon of a safe place for these rhinos.

Many critically endangered species are safeguarded here, including the Grevy’s zebra, lion, cheetah, and the African wild dog. You can find many rhino species during your safari rides.

Ol Pejeta Conservancy is extended for 400 square kilometers and houses more than 210 endangered species of both the black and white rhinos.

With their newly found egg-harvesting method, the experts here have developed ways of safeguarding and developing the species’ population.

Nairobi National Park

This conservancy hosts more than 50 species of black rhinos. Located in the southwest part of Kenya, this national park has developed many reproducing techniques to increase the population of black rhinos.

While in this national park, you can find some sightings of rhinos in their habitat and the best accommodation and lodging facilities around the city.

Even though it is a small national park, it never fails to cater to your needs of watching rhinos closely in their habitat.

Ngorongoro Crater

In Tanzania, the Ngorongoro Crater is considered one of the incredible safari destinations. This crater was formed when a volcanic mountain collapsed and gave birth to the rhino sanctuary in Tanzania. This natural enclosure hosts many endangered species of black rhinos.

The crater is surrounded by lush greenery and excellent grazing fields. These factors contribute to offering the best place for the rhinos to explore the space and enjoy being amidst their natural habitat.

Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park is stretched for more than 15,000 square kilometers. Many factors make this national park the ideal habitat for rhinos, such as the woodlands, granite kopjes, rivers, and grasslands.

While patrolling the lands, the rangers ensure that every rhino is accounted for and safeguarded from possible difficulties.

As the years rolled, many rhino species were introduced to the national park to enjoy staying close to nature and the same species. As a result, the population has gradually increased with the birth of new calves.

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy

This conservancy was started in 1983 with some rhino species. The gradual introduction of rhino species to this sanctuary has increased the diversity of this animal. The initial number of rhino species was 15 when introduced.

Now, you can count more than 260 species in this conservancy whenever you visit this place to watch rhinos in Tanzania.

Many such conservatories and sanctuaries in Africa are working hard not only to safeguard the current rhino species and increase their population with the help of scientific methods.
